Rosemaling is Norwegian for "decorative painting"it is a form of decorative Folk Art that originated in the rural valleys of Norway art historians interpret "rose" as a reference to the rose flower, although the floral elements are often so stylized that no specific flower is identifiable. it is characterized by the scrolling S and C shapes. I used ink on paper for this piece but it is traditionally done in paint on wood or fabric.
