Today is the 151st birthday of Elizabeth Jane Cochran aka Nellie Bly. She was a writer, inventor, and philanthropist who was widely known for her record-breaking journey around the world in 72 days. She was a pioneer in her field, and launched a new kind of investigative journalism. For an exposé she wrote, she pretended to be insane to investigate a mental institution from within,no one had done this before. She was born May 5th 1864 and died in January of 1922.
